Young Medicine Man

"Young Medicine Man" by Francis Lynde Kroll is a story set in the world of the Sioux, following Little Eagle's pursuit of becoming a medicine man while also feeling a sense of duty to his people as a warrior. As he grows, Little Eagle learns from Clawing Bear and comes to see and value the importance of bravery, heritage, dedication, and the trials of tribal conflict. The initial conflict is set up when Little Eagle chooses to spend time learning important lessons rather than participating in activities with his friends. Following suspicious activities performed by the Crows, Little Eagle takes his fate into his own hands and becomes a scout, protecting his tribe with a sense of determination while he faces peril. As he is faced with situations, the narrative shows his development and the trials he faces as he transitions into the "Young Medicine Man."
