Summary

"Illustrated Catalogue of the Collections Obtained from the Indians of New Mexico and Arizona in 1879" by James Stevenson is a record from the late 1800s. It is about the items discovered during studies of Pueblo tribes, like their pottery, tools, and things they used at home. The catalogue gives a big picture of what life was like for Native Americans in the Southwest U.S. back then. Stevenson tells about why he wrote it, and he explains what his group found in 1879, pointing out what everyone did to help and why the items are important. He names the types of items he found, such as pottery, tools, and special items used in ceremonies, stressing how different they each were and how well they were made. The start of the catalogue helps people understand the culture of the tribes, showing how old customs and new ways of doing things were mixed together in their handmade items.
