"Beyond These Voices" by M. E. Braddon is a 19th-century novel about Lady Felicia Disbrowe, a noblewoman facing financial difficulties, and her daughter, Cara. After the death of her husband, Captain Cunningham, Lady Felicia finds herself in charge of Cara’s upbringing with very little income. The story kicks off after the introduction of the beautiful Cara, and the mother’s desire to see her married into wealth; however, Cara's life spins when she becomes captivated by Lancelot Davis, a poet. This romance clashes with her mother's aspirations for a wealthy marriage. Their subsequent love story comes at a price, as societal expectations and financial constraints shape their paths, exploring the challenges and sacrifices inherent in love and ambition.
