Marriage

"Marriage" by Susan Ferrier is a story of a young noblewoman named Lady Juliana who is pressured by her father, the Earl of Courtland, to marry for social standing instead of love. When the Earl proposes an unsuitable match in the Duke of L---, Juliana finds herself torn between her duty to her family and her desire for true love. She dreams of a happy life but the conventions of her time may not permit it. Her situation worsens and she runs off with the man she loves, beginning a journey filled with challenges that puts her ideals against the tough realities of society.
