Summary

"Mémoires of Louis XIV and His Court and of the Regency — Volume 14" by the Duke of Saint-Simon offers a peek into the lives of European royals and nobles during a time of change. This volume kicks off with a juicy family feud between England's King George and his son, the Prince of Wales, creating a scandal that Paris can't stop talking about. Readers get to know the key players, like the sly Archbishop Dubois, who's all about climbing the social ladder, and the clever Princess of Wales, who tries to keep the peace between father and son. Through lively stories, the book reveals how personal drama turned into major political events all over Europe, giving a real sense of what it was like to live in those powerful circles.

About the Author

Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon, GE, was a French soldier, diplomat, and memoirist. He was born in Paris at the Hôtel Selvois, 6 rue Taranne. The family's ducal peerage (duché-pairie), granted in 1635 to his father Claude de Rouvroy (1608–1693), served as both perspective and theme in Saint-Simon's life and writings. He was the second and last Duke of Saint-Simon.
