Summary

"The Island of Appledore" by Cornelia Meigs is a story about a boy named Billy Wentworth, who is sent to Appledore Island for the summer, even though he wanted to go to the Rockies. At first, Billy thinks the island is going to be boring. While on the island, Billy meets Captain Saulsby and another boy named Johann Happs. As Billy spends more time on the island, he realizes the island isn't boring at all and he begins to have some new adventures along the rocky coast, filled with mysteries and challenges.

About the Author

Cornelia Lynde Meigs (1884–1973) was an American writer of fiction and biography for children, teacher of English and writing, historian and critic of children's literature. She won the Newbery Medal for her 1933 biography of Louisa May Alcott, entitled Invincible Louisa. She also wrote three Newbery Honor Books.
