"The Pirate of Jasper Peak" by Cornelia Meigs is a story set in the early 1900s where a young boy named Hugh Arnold finds himself in the sleepy town of Rudolm, Minnesota, while his father is fighting in World War I. Initially bored, Hugh's life takes an exciting turn when two local boys vanish during a hunting trip, leading him into a world of friendship, mystery, and a search for the truth. As Hugh gets to know the people of Rudolm, with the backdrop of the wilderness, he uncovers clues about the missing boys and faces the rumored dangers of the wilderness pirate, Half-Breed Jake, making his stay in Rudolm anything but dull.
