Summary

"King John" by William Shakespeare is a historical drama focusing on the turbulent time when King John ruled England. The play kicks off right away with issues of who should be king, as France says the throne really belongs to Arthur, John's nephew. We see everyone choosing sides, like Queen Eleanor, John's mom, and other important people figuring out who they're loyal to and what's right. There's also this interesting character, the Bastard Faulconbridge, trying to find his place and understand who he is, since there's some question about whether his dad was really his dad. Right from the start, you can tell there's going to be trouble, and the story will be full of hard choices and sad things happening to these characters.

About the Author

William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language, and his works continue to be studied and reinterpreted.
