Summary

"Cymbeline" by William Shakespeare is a play that brings us to ancient Britain, where love and betrayal mix in a royal family. The story kicks off with Imogen, the King's daughter, secretly marrying Posthumus, going against her father's wishes and upsetting everyone. As a result, she's locked up byher jealous stepmother, and Posthumus has to leave the country. Adding to the trouble is Cloten, a silly guy who wants to marry Imogen, and Iachimo, who's plotting to ruin her reputation. Everything starts with romantic drama and mistaken identities, promising a wild ride full of difficult situations as the main characters try to find their way through lies and longing.

About the Author

William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language, and his works continue to be studied and reinterpreted.
