Summary

When she sends a pleading letter to her sister and Aunt Lucy, hoping to escape her situation, the story begins, but It is during a quick trip outside that she becomes captivated by the mysterious Laurens estate nearby, piquing her curiosity. Her lively nature leads her into one mishap after another, including a bad fall from a tree that brings her face-to-face with Cecil Laurens, which begins their advancing relationship. As the story progresses, she has to figure out her true identity and the hard parts of living at Ferndale and the reader is transported to a world packed with youthful antics and meaningful problems.

About the Author

Mrs. Alex. McVeigh Miller was the pen name of Mittie Frances Clarke Point, an American novelist. She wrote 80 dime novels during a 50-year career. Her first novel was Rosamond, but her success began with the 1883 romance, The Bride of the Tomb. She died in 1937. In 1978, her home, "The Cedars", was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
