The Come Back

"The Come Back" by Carolyn Wells is an early 1900's story of a young adventurer named Peter Crane, who decides to travel to Labrador with his two friends, ignoring warnings from his family and a dark prediction about his fate. His journey is driven by a thirst for the unknown, interwoven with his love for Carlotta Harper, whom he hopes to marry when he gets back home. The story combines both adventure and a sense of impending doom, especially with the old prophecy suggesting he might not make it back, creating a tone of suspense.
