"Apes and Angels" by Richard Edward Connell is a collection of engaging stories from the early 1900s that looks at the tricky sides of being human, like love, friendship, and what makes people tick. In the beginning, "A Friend of Napoleon" introduces Papa Chibou, a happy night watchman who works at the Museum Pratoucy in Paris, and we soon see him casually chatting and connecting with the exhibit's wax figures, Napoleon most of all. He watches people pass through the museum, and he gets really invested in the lives of others, especially in the romance of an American girl and a French boy. Papa Chibou wants to help them find their happily ever after and live a good life. But when the museum is threatened with closure, and Napoleon is going to be destroyed, Papa Chibou is forced to take desperate action and challenges the law for his wax companion.
