"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is a 19th-century story showing the change in Ebenezer Scrooge, a stingy old man, after he is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley, his old business partner, and three spirits that show him Christmas Past, Present, and Future. The story looks at ideas such as feeling sorry for others, turning away from bad behavior, and what Christmas really means, asking readers to think about being kind and giving. At the start, Ebenezer Scrooge is shown as a cold and greedy person who thinks Christmas is nonsense. The story starts by saying that Marley is dead and that Scrooge is alone and mean. When Scrooge talks to his happy nephew, Fred, who wants him to celebrate Christmas, Scrooge shows that he doesn't like Christmas. When two men ask Scrooge for money for poor people, he refuses to give them anything. Before Marley's ghost appears to warn Scrooge and start him on a path to change, the story paints a sad picture of Scrooge's life.
