Summary

"Little Dorrit" by Charles Dickens is a novel that exposes the harsh realities of poverty and injustice through the eyes of Amy Dorrit, or Little Dorrit, who spends her childhood within the walls of a debtors' prison. The story begins with a sweltering day in Marseilles, where two very different prisoners, the menacing Monsieur Rigaud and the good-hearted John Baptist Cavalletto, wait in a dark cell. Their interaction highlights the themes of imprisonment and the critique of society that run through the book. The narrative follows Little Dorrit's life of hardship and love, illustrating the struggles of those trapped by financial and institutional burdens and gives the reader a glimpse into the wider world and the many intersecting lives beyond the prison walls.
