Summary

"The Parson O' Dumford" by George Manville Fenn is a story set in the late 1800s, focusing on Reverend Murray Selwood's experiences as the new vicar of Dumford and his attempts to connect with the working-class people of the town. The book looks at the problems that religious leaders faced when they were trying to relate to the people they served, while also dealing with social issues and personal relationships. When Reverend Selwood arrives, he meets a construction worker and tries to become friends with him, despite the fact that they're extremely different. This first meeting introduces the problems and social conflicts in the town, especially the tensions that exist between the workers and the factory owner, Richard Glaire. Glaire has feelings for multiple women, including Eve Pelly and Daisy Banks, while the new vicar gains popularity through his honesty and kindness. As Reverend Selwood is trying to settle into his new role, unexpected friendships and conflicts play a big role during his time in Dumford.
