Summary

"The Vicar's People" by George Manville Fenn is a tale set in Cornwall during the late 1800s. The book opens by introducing Geoffrey Trethick, a young engineer full of hope, along with the Penwynn family, notably Rhoda Penwynn, who is at odds with her father's focus on wealth. Rhoda struggles with the limitations placed on her by societal expectations and her father's wishes, especially regarding a potential marriage to Mr. Tregenna, while Geoffrey arrives in Carnac determined to revive old mines. As Geoffrey chases his dreams and Rhoda navigates her responsibilities, the story explores ambition, social class, and personal identity, all within the strict rules of the time.
