Summary

"The Sea Lady" by H. G. Wells is an early 20th-century novel about a mermaid who unexpectedly washes ashore on a Folkestone beach one summer day. The story follows the Bunting family and their companions, especially the two Miss Glendowers, as they encounter this mysterious creature. A humorous rescue happens when the Sea Lady seems like she's drowning, starting a funny yet insightful problem as the characters try to understand her existence and how she navigates life with humans while hiding her true identity. As we meet figures like the strong-willed Mrs. Bunting, her daughters, and an engaged couple, the story mixes adventure, social rules, and the Sea Lady's search for identity as she tries to fit into human society and maybe even gain a soul.
