Summary

"Tono-Bungay" by H.G. Wells is a story told from the perspective of George Ponderevo, who looks back on his life in England during a time of big social and economic changes. The book explores ideas about social class, who people are, and how society was changing, all seen through George's connection to his rich uncle and Tono-Bungay, a once-popular medicine that showed the energy of new businesses. George tells about growing up at Bladesover House, showing what life was like for the different classes of people, from the rich to the poor. Through his stories, he shares his thoughts on people and how they act in society, showing both the grand life and the problems of the upper class. These memories set the stage for a story that will likely look at personal goals and what's wrong with society as the world changes because of new ideas and the economy.
