Summary

"A Captain of Industry: Being the Story of a Civilized Man" by Upton Sinclair is a story about a rich young man, Robert van Rensselaer, as he grows up in a time when industry is changing everything. He has to deal with being rich, what people expect from him, and his own love life. The story looks at whether it's right to be so focused on money, what it means to be a good person, and how people live in a world run by big business. We see Robert go from a happy kid to a grown-up who knows how business works. He falls in love, but he also starts to see the problems that come with factories and workers struggling. As Robert gets ready to take over his dad's business, the book shows how he changes as a person and the tough things he has to face in a difficult world.
