Summary

"It May Be True, Vol. 2 (of 3)" by Henry Wood is a story set in a small 19th-century town, looking at how people interact, their place in society, and how they deal with their emotions. The book dives into topics like being too proud, being jealous, and dealing with the results of what people have done, showing a complex view of friendships and family. Early on, we meet Matthew, a member of the town guard, who argues with his wife, Mrs. Marks. He talks with Goody Grey, who knows about magic spells, hoping to calm his wife's temper, which shows his worries about their marriage and introduces the book's ideas about unhappiness and love. The first parts of the book suggest there are other interesting problems in the town, including those of William Hodge and Mrs. Linchmore, adding to the main story about love, losing someone, and why people do what they do.
