Summary

"The Channings: A Story" by Mrs. Henry Wood, explores the trials of the Channing family after an unfavorable verdict drastically alters their lives. Set in Helstonleigh, where the cathedral bells mark important occasions like the Assizes, the early chapters introduce young Charley Channing, a boy defined by his strong moral compass, and the complex relationships within his family circle. Following the frustrating conclusion of their legal dispute that threatens emotional well-being and financial balance, the family's responses to the new uncertainties of their future highlight their character and test the strength of their bonds, even as seemingly smaller school incidents and disputes come into play.
