"The Devil's Dooryard" by W. C. Tuttle is a Western story where two cowboys named Hashknife and Sleepy find themselves in the middle of a dangerous feud between competing ranches in a wild, frontier town called Sundown City. The story starts with the pair joking about finding love amidst a gunfight, quickly showing the everyday dangers of their world. Characters like Windy Woods share the backstory of the ranch and its issues with a rival group, the notorious Bar 20 outfit. As bullets fly and new faces are introduced, a bigger conflict starts to bubble, hinting at possible love stories and showing the importance of a character named Mary Jane Haley, setting the scene for a tale of adventure, rivalry, life, and honor in the untamed West.
