Summary

"Tommy Remington's Battle" by Burton Egbert Stevenson is a story set in a tough mining town, where a young boy named Tommy Remington is moved by his teacher, Miss Andrews, to get an education. The story shows how important it is to keep trying, how education can change lives, and how communities can support each other as Tommy works hard to learn to read and write, even though life for his family is hard in the coal mines. The book starts by showing Tommy's everyday life and the struggles his family faces. After talking to Miss Andrews, Tommy decides to go to school, even though his dad isn't sure about it at first. He studies hard, wanting to be the first in his family to read and write, and every new thing he learns makes him feel stronger and gives him hope. The story shows how Tommy's journey to learn empowers him, and it also shows how the people around him make a big difference.
