Summary

"The Path of Honor: A Tale of the War in the Bocage" by Burton Egbert Stevenson, is a historical fiction novel that plunges into the heart of Revolutionary France through the eyes of Jean Tavernay, a young traveler on his way to Poitiers. This journey quickly transforms into a trial by fire as Tavernay becomes entangled in the war and political issues of a nation in turmoil. As he journeys through this war-torn land, encountering figures such as the stern Sergeant Dubosq and the mysterious M. de Favras, Tavernay is forced to confront the complex demands of honor, duty, and love. Leaving behind the calm of his departure from Tours, he soon faces the brutal reality of the revolution, captured by Republican soldiers, and later robbed by M. de Favras, he is forced to reconcile his past innocence with a growing understanding of the weight of his responsibilities to both his loved ones and his country, the early events set the stage for an intense exploration of allegiance and sacrifice.
