Summary

"The Point of Honor: A Military Tale" by Joseph Conrad is a story set in the Napoleonic era that looks at what honor means through the eyes of two hussar lieutenants, Feraud and D'Hubert. Their story shows dueling and the complicated military life of the time. It opens with D'Hubert finding Feraud, who dueled a civilian. D'Hubert is charged with finding Feraud, ending in Feraud insisting on dueling D'Hubert for his involvement. This starts a long, complicated relationship filled with misunderstandings and shows how silly the rules they live by can be.

About the Author

Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British novelist and story writer. He is regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language and although he did not speak English fluently until his twenties, he became a master prose stylist who brought a non-English sensibility into English literature. He wrote novels and stories, many in nautical settings that depict crises of human individuality in the midst of what he saw as an indifferent, inscrutable and amoral world.
