Summary

"The Gloved Hand" by Burton Egbert Stevenson is an early 20th-century mystery that centers on puzzling occurrences linked to the isolated Worthington Vaughan, his daughter, and a strange light that appears nightly. Lester, a likable guy, gets pulled into it all by his journalist friend, Jim Godfrey, as they try to learn the truth about the weird events and the family's problems. The story starts by setting the scene and introducing the main characters, like Lester being tired from a tough court case and then getting asked by Godfrey to go to a summer place where he hopes to figure out the midnight mystery. As they look into things, they make a surprising discovery that connects the characters' lives, especially Miss Vaughan's. You wind up with a scene where a scream breaks the silence, hinting that big secrets are about to be revealed from inside the Vaughan property, setting the stage for a complicated investigation full of suspense.
