The Old Helmet, Volume I

"The Old Helmet, Volume I", by Susan Warner, is a book set long ago, about a lively young woman named Eleanor Powle. Eleanor deals with her feelings and what she believes while in a world full of old-fashioned ideas. The story kicks off with Eleanor exploring old ruins, and a man named Mr. Rhys helps her think about life and faith. As Eleanor talks with her friends, the reader learns about how safe she feels in a world that can be pretty shaky. When a storm suddenly rolls in, Eleanor starts to really wrestle with what she thinks and feels, as a result of the setting and her friends. The beginning of the book shows Eleanor's relationships and introduces tough questions about morals that she has to figure out later.
