The Song of Tiadatha

"The Song of Tiadatha" by Owen Rutter is a sometimes funny and sometimes heartfelt story from around the time of World War I, about a man called Tiadatha, or “Tired Arthur" as he was previously known. The story follows him going from a normal life in London to becoming a soldier. At first, he enjoys the good life with eating out and dancing. But, wanting to do his part, he joins the army. The book tells about his training and the friends he makes. The book's style is a mix of showing things as they really were, jokes, and feelings, as Tiadatha goes through the ups and downs of being at war. The beginning of the story gives a lighthearted look into his expectations of army compared to how it really was, setting us up to better understand the serious impact of war.
