Summary

"With My Regiment: From the Aisne to La Bassée" by Arthur Mills is a real story set in the middle of World War I that makes you feel like you are there. It's about a British officer who tells what it was like to fight in the battles around Aisne. The story shows how regular people changed into soldiers and dealt with tough times together. At the start, the book shows the worries and thrills as a young officer gets ready for battle. He gets orders to go, quickly packs his things, and feels sad about leaving his family. As he starts his adventure, the book demonstrates both the close friendship between soldiers and the hidden fear of what might happen, and shows funny personalities, such as a friend named Mulligan. The early parts of the story use strong descriptions to paint a picture of military life, the messy process of leaving for war, and the big difference between peaceful times and the upcoming violence of war.
