Summary

"The Barbadoes Girl: A Tale for Young People" by Mrs. Hofland is a story set in the 1800's. It follows Matilda, a young girl from Barbados, trying to find her place with a new family in England. She must learn to change her ways and learn about kindness. The story begins with the Harewood family eagerly waiting for Matilda, curious about her background and adjustment to life in England. Matilda's initial behavior shows the negative effects of her sheltered upbringing, often acting superior and not showing respect. These first interactions serve as a foundation to watch her grow into a more caring and thoughtful person
