Summary

"A Season at Harrogate" by Mrs. Hofland is a funny and clever series of poems written as letters from a man named Benjamin Blunderhead to his mother. In the letters, he shares what it’s like to visit Harrogate, a special town where people go to get healthy, during the early 1800s. Benjamin talks about the pretty nature around the town and all the different kinds of people who visit, like those who are sick and those who just want to be stylish. He makes jokes about the strange health treatments, the food, and the interesting people he meets, like doctors and other guests. As he goes to parties and tries out weird baths, he also pokes fun at the way people acted back then. Besides health and being a little strange, the book also shows what it was like to have fun and even find love in the 19th century, especially when Benjamin starts to like a young lady who is visiting Harrogate too, giving readers a fun look back at a different time.
