Summary

"The McNaughtens" by Jean-François Regnard is a funny play from the late 1600s that's all about mixed-up people and love stories. The play takes place mostly in London and talks about lying, love, money, and how tricky people can be in a funny way. The main story is about Captain McNaughten, who finds out he has a twin brother, which causes lots of confusion as they try to find love and get their inheritance. When the Captain gets to London, he quickly gets caught up in a love mess with Flavella, who is George Hastings' daughter, and Urania, an older woman who wants to be with him. The brothers' similar looks cause funny problems when they accidentally flirt with the women who are supposed to be with the other brother. This mix-up gets even crazier when both McNaughten brothers have to face their feelings and what they want, while also dealing with inheritance issues, love, and what society expects, all leading to a happy and wild ending.
