Summary

"Diary of Samuel Pepys — Complete 1660 N.S." by Samuel Pepys is a 17th-century diary that gives readers a close look at the author's life and important happenings during the English Restoration. As a key person in the Admiralty, Samuel Pepys recorded his everyday life, changes in society, and his part in history, like naval issues and political problems. The diary begins with Pepys thinking about his health and home life, hoping his wife is pregnant, and sharing details about political problems, including disturbances in Parliament and issues with military leaders, setting the scene for a story that mixes personal desires with major historical events.

About the Author

Samuel Pepys was an English diarist and naval administrator. He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament, but is most remembered today for the diary he kept for almost a decade. Though he had no maritime experience, Pepys rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and his talent for administration. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy.
