Summary

"Diary of Samuel Pepys — Complete 1668 N.S." by Samuel Pepys is a historical diary offering an intimate look into the life of a 17th-century naval administrator as he juggles work, family, and society during the Restoration era. The diary begins on New Year's Day, immersing readers in the daily life of Pepys as he deals with financial concerns, attends social gatherings, comments on the socio-political environment, and navigates complex relationships, providing sharp commentary on the actions of others and the significant events shaping England at the time.

About the Author

Samuel Pepys was an English diarist and naval administrator. He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament, but is most remembered today for the diary he kept for almost a decade. Though he had no maritime experience, Pepys rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and his talent for administration. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy.
