Summary

"Diary of Samuel Pepys — Volume 70: December 1668" by Samuel Pepys is a historical record from the 1600s, during a time when England was rebuilding itself. The story follows Pepys as he writes about the events of his life in December of that year, mixing important events with his personal thoughts, and revealing what it was like to live back then. The book likely shows Pepys working as an important person in the navy while also trying to enjoy life by going to plays, meeting with friends, and dealing with issues in his marriage. Pepys writes about fighting with people at work, his wife being upset about his past romances, and working to keep his money in order.

About the Author

Samuel Pepys was an English diarist and naval administrator. He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament, but is most remembered today for the diary he kept for almost a decade. Though he had no maritime experience, Pepys rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and his talent for administration. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy.
