Summary

"Diary of Samuel Pepys — Volume 69: November 1668" by Samuel Pepys is an old-time story that lets us peek into the world of a man working for the English Navy in the 1600s. The tale is about how he's struggling with problems at work involving important people like the Duke of York, as well as dealing with trouble at home, because he likes someone who isn't his wife. As he writes about his everyday life, we learn a lot about what it was like to live back then in England, including big events and how people acted. The story shows his ups and downs as he tries to be a good husband and do his job well, all while big things are happening in the country around him.

About the Author

Samuel Pepys was an English diarist and naval administrator. He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament, but is most remembered today for the diary he kept for almost a decade. Though he had no maritime experience, Pepys rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and his talent for administration. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy.
