Summary

"Recollections of Europe" by James Fenimore Cooper is a captivating travelogue from the 1800s that chronicles the author's voyage through Europe, with special attention given to England and France. Presented as a collection of letters, the book provides Cooper's insights into European society, culture, and landscapes, all viewed through the eyes of an American traveler. The story begins with the author preparing for his trip and saying a heartfelt goodbye to his New York home before boarding a ship to Europe; the excitement of the journey is mixed with fear, as he describes the beautiful sights along the Hudson River, the peaceful sea, and his interactions with other passengers and the ship's crew, conveying both a sense of longing and anticipation as he considers how different Europe will be from America.
