Summary

"Cappy Ricks Retires: But That Doesn't Keep Him from Coming Back Stronger Than…" by Peter B. Kyne is a story focused on Cappy Ricks' attempt to retire from his role as president of the Blue Star Navigation Company, even though he can't fully let go. It dives into ideas about being a leader, staying loyal, and the unique world of sea travel, with the main focus given to the chief engineer, Terence Reardon, and captain Mike Murphy, who are memorable characters. The book starts with Cappy Ricks finding it hard to relax in retirement as he tries to stay involved in his company. He wants a say in who leads the new ship, the "Narcissus," particularly when it involves picking Irishmen for significant job roles. Now that Cappy is trying to deal with things while Reardon and Murphy get ready to sail, the book sets the stage for possible conflict. His need to stick his nose in things shows how strongly he still feels about the company, even though he is retired.
