Summary

"The Messiah of the Cylinder" by Victor Rousseau is a science fiction story that kicks off at a lab in England, where Arnold Pennell and his buddy Lazaroff are messing around with the idea of freezing animals in time. The book looks at what makes us human, where we’re headed as a species, and how science and beliefs clash, raising tough questions about right and wrong when you're playing with life itself. It all starts with a very intense debate between Arnold, Lazaroff, Sir Spofforth, and Esther, who have totally different ideas about science versus spirituality. Then, Lazaroff suggests a crazy experiment: locking monkeys in special containers to keep them asleep for a hundred years. Arnold starts to worry about whether they should even be doing this. The stage is set to watch their relationships get tested as they deal with the tricky problems that come with making big leaps in science, which leads to some wild outcomes that challenge everything they think they know.
