Summary

"The Machine That Saved The World" by Murray Leinster, is a science fiction story where the world is thrown into chaos by weird transmissions from somewhere unknown, messing with electronics everywhere and freaking out the military and scientists. The story focuses on a Sergeant named Bellews, who fixes up fancy machines, when he starts hearing strange warnings about something really bad that could happen to people in the future. The signals talk about a killer bacteria that could wipe out half the world. Bellews and some scientists try to figure out what these messages mean, but they start thinking that maybe the messages aren't friendly warnings, but a trick. As things get more tense, they discover a hidden danger that could destroy humanity, making them think hard about whether their awesome technology is worth the risks.
