Summary

"The Heart of a Dog" by Albert Payson Terhune is a story set in the early 1900s that captures the raw world of animals. The novel focuses on silver foxes and a collie who experience life away from people. It's a tale about surviving, inner animal instincts, and the special connections between animals. The story kicks off at the Stippled Silver Kennel, where the owners want to raise and sell silver foxes. Unfortunately, they don’t know much about how foxes act, which leads to two foxes, King Whitefoot II and Lady Pitchdark, breaking free one night. Out in the wild, the foxes learn to depend on their instincts to survive without human help. Their experiences show the ups and downs of animals living in nature, which builds the foundation for the story's unfolding events.
