Summary

"An Annapolis First Classman" by Edward L. Beach is an exciting account of the lives of Robert Drake and Stonewell, two midshipmen during their last year at the United States Naval Academy in the early 1900s. The story kicks off with a high-spirited reunion at a train station, highlighting themes of friendship and competition, and the intense pressure of military training right away. You see them joking, catching up, and already thinking about who will get the top honors. The book shows their struggles for leadership, the rivalry with West Point, and how they balance friendships and prep for the future, both in the academy and beyond. The tone is set for some serious drama.
