Summary

"Ralph Osborn--Midshipman at Annapolis" by Edward L. Beach follows Ralph Osborn's ambitious quest to enter the U.S. Naval Academy in the early 1900s. It begins by showing Ralph's passion and talent for math as motivations for wanting to become a naval officer, along with the challenge of affording the Naval Academy. Ralph's hopes hinge unexpectedly on his estranged Uncle George, who might turn out to be an ally in his pursuit. Ralph prepares to face the competitive examination process, setting the stage for a story about ambition, family, and dealing with challenges as a midshipman.
