"The White Sister" by F. Marion Crawford is a story set in Italy about Angela Chiaromonte, who is dealing with big changes in her life after her father's death. She also has to handle some trouble because her parents weren't married in a way that everyone agreed was right. A man named Giovanni Severi loves Angela and really wants to marry her, even though things are hard because of what other people think and say. The story shows what life was like for rich people in Italy, and it deals with how people find love, deal with losing people they care about, and figure out who they are. At the start, we see Angela in a painter's studio, where she is getting her picture painted by Filmore Durand. Then, Angela finds out her father has died, and everything changes. She suddenly isn't sure about her future anymore because, according to the law, she might not really be who she thought she was; so, she has to figure out who she is all over again while facing a world that doesn't always seem fair.
