Summary

"Marjorie Dean's Romance" by Josephine Chase is a story about a young woman named Marjorie Dean, now in post-graduate studies at Hamilton College, who is writing a biography of the college's founder, Brooke Hamilton. As she balances her work with her friendships, especially her close connection with the spirited Jerry Macy, her world begins to open. The story begins with Marjorie writing in Brooke Hamilton's old study, right as the sun peaks out. The friendly and light talk with Jeremiah Macy shows just how important their friendship is. They talk about what's happening at school as they wait for friends to come over to Wayland Hall. Through these times, it becomes clear just how important Miss Susanna Hamilton (the founder's great-niece) is to Marjorie, as well as her goal to keep Brooke Hamilton's memory alive, all while parts of ambition and drama stir inside the student group.
