Summary

"Conditionally Human" by Walter M. Miller Jr. is a science fiction story set in a future where people can't have kids, so they make synthetic humanoids called neutroids to fill that space. The book is about Terrell Norris, who works as someone who gets rid of neutroids, struggles with the morality of his job, especially when he meets Peony, a neutroid with the power of speech. As Norris has to destroy Peony, he struggles to challenge the ethics of his world, leading to a big and tough-to-understand ending.

About the Author

Walter Michael Miller Jr. was an American science fiction writer. His fix-up novel, A Canticle for Leibowitz (1959), the only novel published in his lifetime, won the 1961 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Prior to its publication, he was a writer of short stories.
