Summary

"Through the Heart of Patagonia" by H. (Hesketh) Hesketh-Prichard is an early 20th-century travel story about a trip to explore the unknown lands of Patagonia, its animals, and the native Tehuelche people, while also looking for signs that the ancient Mylodon might still be alive. The story paints a picture of the land and thinks about the different cultures the author meets. It starts by laying out the reasons for the trip, showing Patagonia as a place full of secrets with huge open spaces and tough land. It also talks about how little proof there was of the Mylodon's existence and the problems faced during the trip. It shows the stark difference between the rough Patagonian scenery and the cowboy way of life of the gauchos, setting the scene for the adventures and discoveries to come.

Concerned not only with improving the quality of marksmanship, the measures he introduced to counter the threat of German snipers were credited by a contemporary with saving the lives of over 3,500 Allied soldiers.
