"Kiana: a Tradition of Hawaii" by James Jackson Jarves is a historical fiction novel that takes place in the 1800s, where a ship sailing through the Pacific Ocean crashes into the shores of Hawaii. The novel is set on a ship led by Juan Alvirez, his sister Beatriz, and a priest named Olmedo. The crew faces a series of tragic events and shipwrecks, only for them to eventually discover a new life on the island's shores and meet the people of Hawaii, including a chief named Kiana; as the priest, Olmedo, introduces these new cultures, the island transitions and a tale of resilience takes shape.
