"Beauchamp; or, The Error" by G. P. R. James is a story from long ago, taking place during the time of a British King George. It follows Beauchamp, a young man who suddenly finds himself in trouble when he runs into some bad guys on a quiet country road. The story looks at grand adventures, being brave and honorable, and how people can be complicated, touching upon tough choices and problems in society back then. The book begins on a pretty evening in May as Beauchamp enjoys a peaceful ride, but things change quickly when he hears someone calling for help. He discovers robbers attacking a lady and pulling her from her carriage. Right away, Beauchamp decides to help, fighting the robbers in an exciting scene that shows how brave he is. After the fight, we meet more people, including the ladies he saved, hinting at more of the twists and turns ahead, as well as romances and what people expected from one another in those days.
