Summary

"The Rover of the Andes: A Tale of Adventure on South America" by R. M. Ballantyne is a 19th-century story about Lawrence Armstrong, a young Englishman, who journeys through the Andes to reclaim his family's sugar mill after his father's passing. Lawrence, with a mix of awkwardness and resolve, meets Pedro, a clever Peruvian guide amidst conflicts between Peru and Chile that threatens the journey. As Lawrence arrives at his childhood home, now war-torn, the themes of adventure, resilience, and the brutal truths of war interlace when he reunites with Quashy, a devoted servant from his past, forming friendships navigating the dangerous mountains.
